A young activist named Deric Lostutter, also known as KYAnonymous, took matters into his own hands to expose the cover-up of the infamous Steubenville rape. Because Deric did everything he could to release information surrounding the case, the world now knows the truth about the rape and those that tried to cover it up.
An unnamed Steubenville resident, afraid to have his identity revealed and unsure of what to do with the evidence he had, contacted Deric with the notorious video of the rapists.
“He was like, ‘...I was afraid the cops would delete it, and it would disappear forever if I gave it to them,’ and I was like, ‘Well, I'll make sure that won't happen.’”
On April 15th, the FBI raided Deric Lostutter's home and confiscated two computers, memory devices, and an X-BOX. Deric described the raid: "As I open the door to great [sic] the driver approximately 12 F.B.I. Swat Team agents jumped out of the truck screaming for me to 'Get The F--k Down' with m-16 assault rifles and full riot gear armed safety off, pointed directly at my head. I was handcuffed and detained outside while they cleared my house." He was subsequently informed that the government was pursuing charges.
The allegations included conspiracy regarding the hacking of the Steubenville Football Team's fanpage, which included the posting of a video on the site promising to take action against those involved in the Steubenville rape and it’s cover-up if they didn’t come forward with a public apology. Deric was instrumental in exposing the rape and making much of the evidence available.
According to an interview with Mother Jones, Deric believes that the FBI investigation was motivated by local officials in Steubenville. "They want to make an example of me, saying, 'You don't f--king come after us. Don't question us." If convicted of the hacking-related charges, Deric will face up to 10 years in prison. Prison time for standing up for teenage girl who was raped and publicly violated.
That's just wrong. Help us send a message to the government that we won't allow them to put a heroic young person in jail while protecting those who covered up an atrocious assault.
